Question:
Should we give our 4-month-old water or does she get enough with her milk?
Answer:
There is really no specific need for water as breast milk and formula are over 80 per cent water. Small amounts of water will do no harm. Water may be recommended by her GP for specific conditions. In a couple of months, your daughter may be ready to try a cup; water will be the first cup drink. If your
baby is on an artificial milk then you should be fairly strict as to how much powder you put in. If you are not then it is a good idea to give a little extra water, say 3-4 ounces (100 mls) as a feed that is too concentrated makes a
baby thirsty.
